How to Calculate Appliance Electricity Cost Step by Step Using Example Values
The calculator displays these example values:
- Appliance power: 1,000 watts
- Number of appliances: 1
- Usage per day: 8 hours
- Usage days per month: 30
- Electricity rate: entered by the user
Because the rate field has no fixed default, this example uses the dated July 2026 Meralco overall residential rate of ₱14.8261 per kWh. This rate was reported in Meralco’s July 2026 announcement and is used only to demonstrate the formula.
Always replace it with the rate applicable to your electricity provider and billing period.
Step 1: Convert Watts to Kilowatts
Divide the appliance power by 1,000:
1,000 watts ÷ 1,000 = 1 kW

The appliance may therefore consume approximately 240 kWh during the entered month if it continuously draws 1,000 watts while operating.
Step 4: Calculate the Monthly Electricity Cost
Multiply monthly consumption by the illustrative rate:
240 kWh × ₱14.8261 = ₱3,558.264
Rounded to two decimal places:
Estimated monthly cost = ₱3,558.26
The calculator should therefore show approximately 8 kWh of daily consumption, 240 kWh of monthly consumption and ₱3,558.26 in estimated monthly cost.
This example assumes constant power draw. Actual consumption may be lower or higher when the appliance cycles, changes speed or uses different operating modes.
