Estimate for covered private-sector employees only; actual overtime entitlement depends on compensable hours, employee coverage, payroll policy, CBA and official holiday or rest-day classification.

The Overtime Calculator Philippines helps covered private-sector employees estimate additional pay for compensable work performed beyond eight hours. Enter your basic hourly rate, select the correct day classification and provide the hours worked to see a detailed estimate.

The result separates ordinary hourly compensation from the additional overtime premium. If you need to determine your regular hourly or daily earnings first, use the Salary Calculator Philippines before completing the overtime fields.

What Does the Overtime Calculator Show?

The calculator uses the selected day type to apply the appropriate rate to the first eight hours and overtime hours. Its result area displays:

  • Estimated overtime pay
  • Rate for the first eight hours
  • Applicable overtime rate
  • Overtime hourly pay
  • Ordinary hourly component
  • Overtime premium component
  • Total estimated shift pay

This breakdown helps you understand how the overtime amount relates to your ordinary hourly wage. It does not automatically inspect your attendance records or determine whether every hour is compensable.

Employees reviewing other earnings and payroll tools can browse calculators for the Philippines separately. Each tool should be used for its stated purpose rather than combining unrelated estimates.

How to Use the Calculator

Start with the basic hourly rate shown in your payroll records. This should be your ordinary hourly wage before the calculator applies an overtime or day-classification multiplier.

Next, select the correct classification for the day worked. The rate can differ depending on whether the work occurred on an ordinary working day, rest day, special day or regular holiday.

Complete the remaining fields:

  1. Enter your basic hourly rate.
  2. Select the correct day classification.
  3. Enter the hours worked within the first eight hours.
  4. Enter only compensable overtime hours beyond eight.
  5. Select “Calculate Overtime Pay.”
  6. Review the rate and payment breakdown.

Do not enter total shift hours in the overtime field. For a ten-hour ordinary shift, enter 8 as the hours within the first eight and 2 as overtime hours.

Work performed during the night may involve a separate premium. The Night Differential Calculator Philippines can estimate the night differential independently when qualifying work falls within the applicable night period.

Formula for an Ordinary Working Day

For an ordinary working day, work beyond eight hours is generally calculated at 125% of the basic hourly rate.

The overtime hourly rate is:

Overtime hourly pay = Basic hourly rate × 125%

The overtime amount is:

Estimated overtime pay = Overtime hourly pay × Overtime hours

The calculator also divides the overtime amount into two parts:

Ordinary hourly component = Basic hourly rate × Overtime hours

Overtime premium component = Basic hourly rate × 25% × Overtime hours

The total estimated shift pay combines compensation for the hours within the first eight with overtime compensation:

Total shift pay = Regular-hours pay + Estimated overtime pay

Different formulas apply when another day classification is selected. The calculator adjusts the first-eight-hours rate and overtime multiplier according to that selection.

Example Using the Screenshot Values

The screenshot shows these example values:

  • Basic hourly rate: ₱100
  • Day classification: Ordinary working day
  • Hours within the first eight: 8
  • Overtime hours beyond eight: 2

First, calculate pay for the initial eight hours:

₱100 × 8 = ₱800

For an ordinary working day, the applicable overtime rate is 125%:

₱100 × 125% = ₱125 per overtime hour

Multiply this rate by two overtime hours:

₱125 × 2 = ₱250 estimated overtime pay

The overtime amount can be separated into:

Ordinary hourly component: ₱100 × 2 = ₱200

Overtime premium component: ₱100 × 25% × 2 = ₱50

The complete estimated shift pay is:

₱800 + ₱250 = ₱1,050

The calculator should therefore show:

  • Day rate for first eight hours: 100%
  • Applicable overtime rate: 125%
  • Applicable overtime hourly pay: ₱125
  • Ordinary hourly component: ₱200
  • Overtime premium component: ₱50
  • Estimated overtime pay: ₱250
  • Total shift pay: ₱1,050

This example assumes that both overtime hours are compensable and the employee is covered by the applicable overtime rules.

Philippine Overtime Rules

Under the Philippine Labor Code, covered employees who work beyond eight hours on an ordinary working day are generally entitled to their regular hourly wage plus at least 25%.

Work beyond eight hours on a holiday or rest day generally receives an additional amount based on the rate applicable to that day. Current coverage, classifications and payroll rules should be checked through DOLE and confirmed with the employer.

A higher rate may apply under a collective bargaining agreement, employment contract or favourable company policy. The calculator provides a statutory-style estimate and cannot identify an employer’s enhanced rate automatically.

Overtime Pay and Holiday Pay Are Different

Holiday or rest-day classification can affect both compensation for the first eight hours and the multiplier applied after eight hours. Selecting “ordinary working day” for holiday work can therefore produce an unsuitable estimate.

Use the Holiday Pay Calculator Philippines when the main question concerns compensation for working or not working on a regular or special holiday. Use this overtime calculator when calculating hours worked beyond eight under the selected classification.

Do not calculate holiday pay in both tools and add the complete results without checking for overlapping components.

Important Limitations

The calculator cannot determine:

  • Whether the employee is legally covered
  • Whether waiting or standby time is compensable
  • The correct classification of a specific date
  • Meal-break treatment
  • Night differential
  • Tax and statutory deductions
  • Employer-specific rounding
  • Contractual rates above statutory minimums
  • Whether overtime was properly authorized

The result is a gross estimate before deductions. It is not an official payroll computation, legal assessment or guarantee of entitlement.

Certain employees may be excluded from standard hours-of-work provisions depending on their role and working arrangements. Ask HR or payroll to confirm coverage when your position is managerial, field-based or otherwise subject to special rules.

Common Mistakes

Do not enter a daily or monthly wage in the hourly-rate field. Convert it using the method applied by your employer and verify the result against your payslip.

Avoid entering eight regular hours plus ten overtime hours for a ten-hour shift. Only two hours occurred beyond the first eight in that example.

Select the actual day classification rather than assuming every shift is ordinary. Also calculate night differential separately when overtime overlaps eligible night hours.
